LOCATION:Chelsea School\, 2970 Belcrest Center Dr #300\, Hyattsville\, MD 20782
DESCRIPTION:http://asdec.org/event-2656037\n\n\nMultisensory Math: Strategies for Secondary School Mathematics Instruction\n You must first be a member of ASDEC to register for a course.\n Member registration is free and you can become a member of ASDEC online here. Secondary school mathematics teachers know that many students arrive in middle and high school classes ill prepared for successfully mastering course content. National testing data demonstrate that significant numbers of students fall behind before third grade and never catch up. Many middle and high school students struggle with major concepts such as multiplication/division\, fractions/decimals and are unable to reason mathematically. This workshop will offer evidence based strategies for teaching pre-algebra\, algebra and geometry to all secondary school students including those who struggle with math. Techniques for differentiation\, inclusion and intervention will be modeled. Participants will leave with ideas and some manipulatives for modeling math. The workshop is built on previous conference presentations given for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.\n Saturday 9-4\n * 8:30-9 Registration\n\n * 9-12 Research\, Rationale\, Remediation * The Different Learner and Mathematics\n\n * Evidence Based Instructional Techniques\n\n * Foundation Skills and how to integrate numeracy and fluency with content instruction\n\n * Core Deficits and Strategies for Building the Base * Multiplication/Division\n\n * Fractions/Decimals/Percent\n\n \n\n \n\n * 12-1:00 Lunch\n\n * 1:00-4:00 The Foundations of Secondary School Mathematics * Pre-algebra\n\n * Skills and Concepts for Algebra I Linear Functions \n\n \n\n Sunday Afternoon 1-4\n * Algebra: Building on the Foundation\n\n * Geometry: Techniques for Integrating Spatial Reasoning\, Formulas\, & Applications from Algebra \n\n
