First/Second Grade Reading and Numeracy Program

Summer Program for First/Second Grade Students showing signs of: 
  • Delayed oral language, 
  • Difficulty learning the alphabet, 
  • Difficulty with numerals and quantities in math,
  • Weak decoding skills, 
  • Poor sound symbol recognition, 
  • Inadequate vocabulary development, and 
  • Weak phonological awareness. 

Children will develop fundamental reading and math skills through multisensory, structured activities and games.

Who should Attend?
Students who will be completing First and Second Grade who currently are struggling in school and who are at risk of having a diagnosed learning disability.
  
Courses:

Multisensory Language Training
ASDEC integrates Orton-Gillingham based instruction with Montessori methods to teach phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, and comprehension procedures that focus attention, improve memory, and reduce anxiety.
 
Verbal Expression/Reading Comprehension
Through interactive activities and games, students improve language skills through sentence expansion, categorizing and sequencing activities, and deductive reasoning methods.

Multisensory Math  
Students learn numeracy, place value, basic math facts, and basic operations through games, songs, and other multisensory techniques.

Costs
$1,750 for four week program 

Dates
July 6 - 30, 2015 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Summer Program Team
Certified Academic Language Therapist, Mona Iyer, CALT will direct the summer program. Ms. Iyer is also a Certified Montessori Teacher who instructs children aged 3- 6 years old at the Manor Montessori School.  Ms. Iyer has over 23 years experience as a Montessori teacher and over 8 years as a Certified Academic Therapist having worked in ASDEC's summer program for six years.
