Please sign up for a referral to an available Academic Therapist. ASDEC will refer families to our Academic Therapists.  Most of our therapists have openings during the school day which is the optimal time for instruction. You will receive an email from us when we find an Academic Therapist with an opening.

Please note that ASDEC Academic Therapists work with students one-to-one a minimum of three times per week. Academic Therapists may work with your child at a school, library, or home office.

    Multisensory Math 1 Online:

    Instructor: Marilyn Zecher

Based on the Orton-Gillingham philosophy of teaching, Marilyn Zecher's Multisensory Mathematics I applies the research-based Concrete-Representation-Abstract (CRA) approach to teaching mathematics as advocated by the National Math Panel and the NCTM. Participants learn to apply this methodology in guiding students from foundation skills and numeracy to place value, operations, fractions and decimals. Participants learn to use manipulatives effectively to reinforce concepts, aid memory and enhance performance for all students. Strategies for helping students learn and retrieve math facts are stressed as well as structured procedures for computational accuracy. This approach is especially effective with students who learn differently, inclusion classes and ESL learners. The approach is effective for initial instruction as well as remedial work at all levels and is compatible with all curricula and programs.

    Program Dates:

Language Foundations (also known as “Structured Language Basics – SLB) is an Orton-Gillingham based multisensory approach to teaching reading-language arts skills in an inclusive classroom.  This curriculum is equally successful with elementary, secondary, and adult students for whom reading and spelling present significant problems.  More importantly, the use of Language Foundations in the primary grades can act as a preventative measure for difficulty with reading and spelling in the later grades.

Over 9,000 teachers have been trained in Language Foundations (LF) with research indicating substantial improvement among students receiving LF instruction.  Teachers deliver a scripted curriculum of 125 multisensory lessons that provide instruction in reading, spelling, grammar, handwriting and composition. In addition, teachers receive a full kit of instructional materials. Teachers are not required to make additional instructional materials. The comprehensive materials tool kit includes teacher manual, manipulatives and student kits.
